Meet Minte

Master of Arts in Contemporary Dance

Dancer, Teacher, Choreographer

Mintesinot Wolde is a contemporary dancer, choreographer, teacher, active professional member of Dance Ireland, Board Member of Galway Dance Project, and on the Artist panel for Roscommon County Council. He graduated with an MA first-class honor in Contemporary Dance Performance from the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance at the University of Limerick. Mintesinot also received professional training in Traditional and African Contemporary dance from Jant-Bi Ecole des Sables African Dance School in Senegal 2013. Previously, worked at Mekuria Theatre Studio and Entertainment company formed by the legendary Ethiopian Theatre writer and director Abate Mekuria from 2004-2008 in Addis Ababa as one of the Artistic directors, dancers, and Dance teachers in Ethiopia.

 

He has performed as a dancer recently in “Gushland”’ (February 2022) and “Echoes of Calling Encounter” (March 2021) directed by internationally acclaimed choreographer Akiko Kitamura (Japan/Tokyo). In 2021, he toured with IMDT for “Dances For Inside and Outside”, performed “Inside Dance” at La MaMa Moves New York! Dance Festival directed by John Scott. He has been featured in a short music film "Eire Ildanach''/ ‘an Irish Goodbye” by renowned Irish musician Daithi, presented on TG4 TV channel for “Samhlu” 2020 show, which won two Prix Circom for European’s regional public service broadcasters award in 2021. He was featured in a music video “Avalon” for Grammy award winner Rhiannon Giddens, filmed and directed by Laura Sheeran, dancing alongside Stephanie Dufresne. For the past few years, he worked with IMDT on the film for “Dances for Inside and Outside” and live performance “Bloodlines” directed by John Scott, participated in Step Up Dance Project 2018, the first public presentation of “Museum of Missing Things” by Chiodi Dance Company, and worked with Maya M Carroll and others to mention a few. 

 

In developing his dance pieces, Mintesinot choreographed and presented his new screen dance piece “See you in the Green” through Roscommon Arts Centre and at Dancer of the Dance Festival, hosted by John Scott. He received the Agility Award 2021, Round 1 recipient from Arts Council, and Artists Bursary from the Roscommon Arts Office to create a short film as work in progress called “Forth Strides”. Previously, awarded dance residencies at Roscommon Art Centre, Dance Ireland, and Shawbrook in 2020. 

 

Recently, in collaboration with various artists he choreographed dance pieces for “At the Abbey” and “At the Castle” as part of 2021, Roscommon County council LLPPS activities.
